Is Demigod an unpredictable, entertainingly gory ride that rests somewhere between schlock and quality independent cinema? Yes. Is Demigod an excellent horror movie about pagan cults akin to Midsommer? No. While the film drags in the middle, its ending delivers a satisfying conclusion. The movie may feel ridiculous and over-the-top at times, but it is engaging enough to keep the viewer watching. Another huge highlight is the film's score, which is oddly reminiscent of the infamous score of Twin Peaks by Angelo Badalamenti. Despite a hard-to-follow story, Demigod is still kept interesting by its batty themes and impressive direction. All three bring just the right amount of menace and reserved creepiness to their characters, especially Fisher, whose animalistic portrayal of Fell, a servant of Demigod, is as creepy as they come. The performances by Lindsay Anne Williams, Elena Sanchez, and Sarah Fisher are also some of the film's stronger aspects. Nichols delivers a great heroine through Robin, who goes through enough dynamic changes.

All of the performances are adequate, with some being more memorable than others. Demigod is campy in almost every single way, but it still takes itself fairly seriously, which ends up being a major part of its fun. The movie may be a bit all over the place, but it is unique.ĭemigod's camerawork adds to the strangeness of it all, with random close-ups reminiscent of M. Demigod is a film that bends genre, jumping right into its Saw-esque premise before descending into full-blown fantasy. The best way to describe Demigod is probably to call it a cross between Xena: Warrior Princess and a graphic grindhouse flick from the 70s. It feels as though Doleac is going for more fantastical vibes rather than the harrowing suspense that Ari Aster conveyed in Midsommar.
